The Federal government and several states have enacted laws that provide for recovery by persons who report fraudulent claims, or overcharging, by companies who do business with the state or Federal government. These people are often called “whistleblowers”. This specialized area of law is one in which it is especially important to have legal representation at the earliest stages. All inquires in this, as well as any other area, are of course kept strictly confidential. In this area, however, the failure to keep the claim confidential may impair or eliminate the whistleblower’s right to recovery. If you are aware of a potential claim, it is best to speak to counsel even before you have informal conversations with your friends or relatives.
